"Its been one year since we built out home with Shepard Homes. We had an ambitious timeline- building a large home (over 6,000 total sq ft) in a high velocity flood zone in less than 1 year. And Joey’s team made it happen!
I am really satisfied with the level of support I received from the Shepard Homes team. I had A LOT of change orders and they were patient and kind with me, tracked and accounted for everything… I was provided with regular accounting reports, support from their very awesome officer manager and someone who assisted in the interior/exterior color selection process etc.
Also, they were very good about honoring the 1 year warranty on our home. We had our home inspected at month 11- right before our warranty expired, and I handed the report to the builder with all of the findings. They honored and fixed just about everything in the report.
There were a couple of instances where small assumptions were made by a couple of the subs when I wasn’t present. For example, the type of spindles and hand railing on my balconies, and the particular type of shiplap installed. But, this was our first custom home building experience and I probably should have been ahead of them on those specific details… Although I may have slightly altered the look given the chance on those things (yes I know, I am picky! ), they did turn out beautiful and high quality.
Shepard’s interior carpenter, Wendel, was probably my favorite sub ever! He does amazing work and the quality is impeccable. Wendel works with his two adult sons and I think they are the coast’s best kept secret! If we build again in the area, I would 100% use Shepard Homes. Our home is beautiful and the quality speaks for itself. We were awarded the “best overall custom built new construction” in our sq. ft. category by the Home Builders Association of Mississippi in 2018, for the entire state of Mississippi. That should say something about this builder and his team! "

In June, we met with Joey Shepard and his staff to design and decide what we wanted in our new home. The draftsman, Brian, took our ideas and put them to paper and added many other ideas. After interviewing prospective builders over a ten year period, we met Joey Shepard. He came to our build site and walked around listening to our plans for what we were looking for. Right away we knew we had met the right builder to build our dream home. We gave him our plans and he called us the next day with a quote. The whole process was so exciting and enjoyable. Meeting all the suppliers and subcontractors along the way and they were all so happy to be working with Joey. Everyday Joey and or Brian would be at the construction site. No detail was left to chance. Meanwhile Nikki was back at the office, “the person behind the curtain” as in The Wizard of Oz, keeping everything on track. We don’t know how she does it but we’re glad she does.
After several months of construction we finally moved into our new home. What a blessing. Now months later we are so happy. The quality of construction and attention to detail are tops. It’s no wonder Joey is a Builder of the year award winner. The real thrill for us is that we can call any of the subcontractors directly to ask questions or whatever and they are so happy to talk to us.
